Creative absorber design and optimization for CO2 capture with aqueous piperazine

The Texas Carbon Management Program is preparing a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) of the PZASTM (Piperazine with Advanced StripperTM) for CO2 capture at natural gas combined cycle power plant in West Texas. This paper develops absorber design system and studies operational strategies response to ambient temperature swing. uses 2 trains, each train integrates absorption water-wash section one column. Each column has cross-section area 174 m2 consists 3 sections MellapakPlus® 252Y structured packing. Packing heights are 3, 4.9, 2.7 m from top bottom. A pump-around intercooler applied bottom bed circulates solvent eliminates direct contact cooler. baseline removal rate 90% will vary between 78% temperature. air cooling eliminate water usage. balance be managed by operating wash high circulation (1300 kg/h) condense during night make up loss day. proposed reduces capital cost minimizing packing height eliminating cooler (DCC), improves energy lowering intercooling increasing rate.
